“Ubuntu:
I am because we are”.
Originating in the Bantu and Xhosa people of Southern Africa and popularized by Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela, the Ubuntu philosophy embodies a communal ethos that emphasizes shared responsibility, trust in each other, and interconnectedness among the community.
The Ubuntu philosophy is displayed through compassion, where individuals express a sense of deep caring for and understanding of each other. The Ubuntu approach allows team members to strive towards becoming caring, understanding and sharing (Poovan et al., 2006:24).
At The Ubuntu Partnership
we believe that we are strongest when we come together, aligning as a team, and this includes in business.
Our Approach
We use the philosophy of Ubuntu to guide our approach as we support businesses through their People strategy and initiatives, as well as in 1:1 Coaching. By keeping ‘community’ at the centre of what we do, we can effectively support and advise, resulting in real impact and measurable change for you and your team.
Our values are aligned with some of the many principles of Ubuntu:
Humanness: we are strongest when we team and place our collective interests ahead of our individual interests. We lead by serving others.
Empathy: by consciously seeking to understand another’s perspective, we create a space where people flourish.
Generosity: we willingly give of ourselves, actively focused on growing and supporting others.
Toughness: we always treat others with respect and we make the difficult decisions, even when we don’t want to.
Deep Kindness: in all we do, we are kind.
